太陽谷

太陽谷又名嫦娥谷，位於通往新養女湖和烏山泥火山的途中。這裡的景色令人讚嘆，因處於惡地，谷中又有不同顏色的水池，因此出現奇景。奇形怪狀的岩石加上被其岩所包圍的水池，形成他處沒有的景色。非常建議來此觀賞大自然的神工鬼斧之自然景色。

「嫦娥谷」位於烏山頂泥火山至雞冠山的途中，是一個形態完整的月世界惡地形，亦有「新太陽谷」之稱。其原為濁水溪的上游峽谷，農民於民國82~83年間開始築壩作溝，築壩之後的水塘會引來水鳥嬉戲，呈現寧靜安詳的美感，目前高雄縣政府於此設置景觀平台供遊客觀賞休憩之用。

開發者的推土機如同太陽谷河谷地區，亦已入侵此地區，河谷地應為公有的水利地，但現已被入侵，且侵占為農田。農民的經濟生活需求與奇特自然景觀的永續發展，在燕巢地區不斷上演著角力的戲碼，如果鄉民沒有將一級產業活動轉型為較具觀光效益的生態旅遊產業，則泥岩惡地的特殊景觀勢必將不斷的消逝。本區的惡地地形面積較小，成一環狀山谷，此景點為近幾年鄉公所大力推展的景點。

表層有霜白氧化鎂及硫酸鹽薄層，在月光下會映射出銀色光芒。如此美景，應重視違法開發的問題，防範於未然，才能永續保有。

雞冠山

以山形來看可說是台灣最奇特的雞冠山，山嶺薄薄的矗立在山頂上，「橫看成嶺側成峰」的景緻十分奇趣。形成這般奇特景觀的主因，其實是堅硬的直立石灰岩混合在疏鬆的青灰岩中，經過長年累月風吹日曬雨淋的侵蝕，較疏散的青灰岩逐漸被沖刷，僅留下堅硬孤立的石灰岩層，才造成了今日的奇觀。如果您是個健行爬山的愛好者，天性喜歡追尋大自然的美景奇觀，那就千萬不能錯過這個在高雄燕巢獨有的美景。

雞冠山形成的主要原因，是堅硬的石灰岩直立混合在疏鬆的青灰岩中，經過歲月的沖刷，較疏輕的青灰岩逐漸被侵蝕，而留下空硬孤立石灰岩層，稱為「烙鐵峰」。山脈略為東北、西南走向，山頂的稜線寬度有時僅容一人站立。

新養女湖不屬於泥火山自然生態保留區範圍，而是私人產業，業主為方便遊客觀賞，在湖週圍設置觀賞台和休憩設施，離停車場不遠處也設有小型觀賞亭，同時進行整建景觀步道，將更方便遊客觀賞特殊的自然景觀。

泥火山

　　烏山頂泥火山位於高雄師範大學後方，面積4.89公頃，是全台18處自然保留區中面積最小，因位置關係地下水壓不強，地下水量少，泥漿噴出堆積於噴泥口，形成「噴泥錐」，該區具有較密集且固定的噴火口，各個噴泥口噴發的泥漿中，岩屑的顆粒粗細、泥漿含水量、黏稠度，都各不相同。
